Three apprentice carpenters joined the Steber International team this week as the boatbuilder continues to ramp up its workforce to keep pace with a busy production schedule. Over the past two years, Steber has employed a total of eight apprentices, as well as six qualified employees to keep pace with government, commercial and recreational boat builds. “It is great that we are able to increase our membership and in particular provide the young people of Manning with an exciting career opportunity,” said General Manager Alan Steber. âWe recently doubled the size of our engineering department and achieved a technology upgrade to maximize the efficiency of our production cycle. âCurrently we have 13 vessels on order or in production and all of them are built under the new Australian Maritime Safety Authority survey code,â said Mr. Steber. The projects include: five Australian Navy support vessels, maritime rescue vessels for Victoria, a Hayman Island character boat, a commercial fishing vessel and a fisheries research vessel for the Government of Mauritius, which at 61 feet , will be the largest ever built by Steber.
