Hendry Marine Industries’ Gulf Marine Repair Shipyard in Tampa, Florida has been recognized as a Certified Green Marine Participant. Awarded at the recent GreenTech Conference in Montreal, Canada, the Environmental Excellence Certification came after Hendry completed a rigorous and transparent certification process that began in January.

Green Marine is the largest voluntary marine industry environmental certification program in North America. It encourages industry to go beyond government regulatory standards to help develop ever-improving environmental and socially sustainable practices.

To achieve certification, Hendry Marine evaluated its environmental performance based on the detailed Green Marine framework which includes addressing greenhouse gases and air pollutants, spill prevention, storm water management, waste management, community impacts and environmental leadership. Certification is granted only after an independent review by an external auditor accredited by Green Marine.

“For the marine industry to continue to thrive, we need to protect our environment,” said Hal Hendry, special projects manager at Hendry Marine. “This certification demonstrates our company’s commitment to being a good steward of the environment by implementing environmentally and socially sustainable best practices.”

Hendry Marine will now demonstrate its continuous improvement in environmental performance by submitting annual self-assessment reports indicating higher levels of achievement for each of the performance indicators.
